The European Commission has issued detailed guidance on the implementation of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) for batteries, effective from February 2027. This mandatory requirement applies to all battery manufacturers and importers placing batteries on the EU market. The digital passport must contain standardized information including battery chemistry, performance data, recycled content percentages, disassembly instructions, and responsible recycling pathways. Producers are responsible for generating and maintaining accurate passport data throughout the product lifecycle. The passport facilitates traceability and supports Extended Producer Responsibility compliance by enabling recovery operators and recyclers to access critical information for proper treatment and resource recovery. The guidance addresses technical specifications, data format requirements, and verification procedures to ensure interoperability across EU member states.
