Australia has adopted product stewardship as a strategic mechanism to advance circular economy objectives. However, current Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) frameworks are not operating at their full potential. The analysis identifies gaps in national leadership and coordination as primary factors limiting the effectiveness of existing producer responsibility schemes across multiple product categories. The report calls for strengthened national governance structures to better align state-based EPR programs and improve overall system performance.
